This fall, Unbound Dance Studio in partnership with LA Unbound Dance Company is thrilled to be presenting The Nutcracker Unbound, a fun and modern twist on the classic holiday dance production. Our family-friendly one-hour version of the show will feature a variety of dance styles, including tap, jazz, ballet, hip-hop, and more… and we’d love to have YOUR dancer performing in it!

The Nutcracker Unbound experience is about so much more than just learning a part and performing in a show. Dancers will learn the story and history of the ballet, receive fun themed activities and crafts, work together as a team and develop friendships with their fellow dancers, all with the goal of nurturing a lifelong love and appreciation for this timeless holiday tradition.

This is a completely OPTIONAL performance opportunity that is separate from our regular weekly dance classes. Dancers must be enrolled in at least one weekly dance class at Unbound Dance Studio in order to participate in this performance.

AUDITIONS: Sunday, September 18h at Unbound Dance Studio
2:00-2:30pm – dancers age 4 (dancers MUST be at least 4 years old by audition date)
2:30-3:00pm – dancers age 5
3:00-3:30pm – dancers age 6
3:30-4:00pm – dancers ages 7-9
4:00-4:30pm – dancers ages 10-14
Auditions are for placement purposes only – ALL DANCERS WILL BE CAST IN THE SHOW!
Auditions will be a fun introduction for the dancers to experience an audition process.
No parents will be permitted inside the studio during auditions. You are welcome to wait right outside the studio and watch through the window.
If your dancer cannot make auditions, but would still like to participate in the show, please contact us ASAP at to make alternative arrangements.

No advance registration is necessary. Just bring your dancer on audition day ready to go in dance attire with ballet shoes. Please arrive about 15 minutes ahead of your dancer’s designated call time (by age) to fill out the paperwork and submit your participation fee.

PARTICIPATION FEE: $120 per dancer, due at auditions (cash, credit card, or Venmo).
The fee covers: 10 weeks of rehearsals (instructor/choreographer and studio time), stage rehearsals at the theatre, performance photography and digital video files, plus some costume pieces for the dancer to keep and some for them to rent/borrow. No refunds.

COSTUMES will be a combination of items provided by us for the dancer to keep, items provided by us for the dancer to borrow, and items provided by the dancer.
For example, dancers cast as Angels will be expected to provide their own pink ballet shoes. We will provide tights for the dancer to wear and keep. We will provide a dress, hair piece, wings, and candle prop for the dancer to borrow.
Tickets for the performance will be sold separately and are not included in the participation fee.

REHEARSALS will be held at Unbound Dance Studio on Sunday afternoons (exact times TBA after auditions) from September 25th through December 11th
No rehearsals on November 20th or 27th (Thanksgiving break)
There will also be a full-cast run-through rehearsal the weekend of December 3rd/4th and December 10th/11th. Details will be provided after auditions.
Please do not audition for the show if you are not available on Sundays for rehearsals! Unlike our weekly classes, there will be no makeups. Dancers who miss more than one rehearsal will need to schedule a private lesson to get caught up, or they may be dropped from the show.

DRESS REHEARSAL: Friday, December 16th at AGBU Performing Arts Center in Pasadena
PERFORMANCE: Saturday, December 17th at 4pm at AGBU Performing Arts Center in Pasadena
Call times and more details will be provided after auditions, but please save Friday late afternoon and Saturday ALL DAY for rehearsals and performances.
